iNova Credit Union has proudly served the Halifax community since its founding on April 1, 1936. What began as a grassroots initiative by a Canada Post supervisor and eleven colleagues—meeting on a porch on Parker Street—became the Halifax District Postal Credit Union Ltd., created to offer postal workers a respectful, cooperative place to manage their finances.
Grounded in the Co-operative Principles, Values, and Personal Ethical Values for Co-operators, the credit union provided a safe space for members to deposit their salaries, access fair loans, and be part of an organization built on trust and mutual support.
After two name changes and decades of growth, iNova Credit Union expanded in 2004 to serve the broader community, offering a full range of modern banking products and services. Today, we remain committed to:
· Financial strength and sound governance
· Inclusive support for all individuals
· Sustainable financial and environmental practices
Recognized for Excellence
In 2009, iNova Credit Union was honored with the Coady Award, recognizing leadership and commitment to social action and community well-being among credit unions in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Later that year, a Saint Mary’s University student nominated iNova for the Better Business Bureau Ethics Award for the Maritime Provinces. On November 18, 2009, we proudly won in our category, a testament to our ethical standards and community focus.
